Designed by Glenn Murcutt, one of only two Australians to win the Pritzker Prize (architecture's equivalent of the Nobel), and his partner Wendy Lewin, these three private lodges sit quietly on a rural property in the Otways hinterland, twenty minutes from the Twelve Apostles. There are three lodges on the property. Mira and Yani are four-bedroom residences sleeping up to eight, while Nuru is a one-bedroom lodge designed for couples. All three share the same architectural DNA: clean lines, stone floors, minimalist interiors, and that extraordinary sense of light and space that Murcutt's buildings are known for. The kitchens are equipped with Gaggenau appliances, the living areas furnished with fine European pieces and original Australian art, and the bespoke wood fireplaces are ready to light on cool evenings. Bose audio runs through each lodge. No two lodges feel identical, and the interiors reward slow observation.
Alkina Lodge is self-catering, but this is not a compromise. The Gaggenau kitchens are a genuine pleasure to cook in, and a complimentary gourmet continental breakfast is provided with every stay.
